Description
ORGANIZING a large project brings many debts, and rewards. The scholars, teachers, and friends who shaped this project before and during its lifespan are too many to acknowledge separately, though a glance at chapter bibliographies is a good place to start. Several individuals and organizations provided indispensible support in bringing the project to fruition. Dominic Byatt, our editor at Oxford University Press, was an early and enthusiastic supporter without whom this project would not have come about. A November 2013 conference in Philadelphia, mid-way through the project, shaped the core of the volume. We thank Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania for generous assistance. At Temple, we are especially grateful for the support of Teresa Soufas and Kevin Glass in the Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts, the Faculty Senate, Ram Mudambi and the Center for International Business and Education Research, Peter Logan and the Center for Humanities at Temple, Richard Immerman and the Center for the Study of Law and Diplomacy, Richard Deeg and the William Alan Jones Fund of the Department of Political Science. At the University of Pennsylvania, we especially thank Edward Mansfield and the Christopher H. Browne Center for International Studies, the Office of the Vice-Provost for Research, and the Dean’s Office at the School of Arts and Sciences for their financial support. We also owe a special thanks to Danielle Scherer for being an indispensible project assistant, and to Prakirti Nangia for organizational assistance with the Philadelphia conference. To Sarah Parker and Olivia Wells of OUP, and to Elizabeth Stone, our copy-editor, we extend particular thanks for lending us keen eyes and kind help along the way. Finally, we thank the contributors who with great energy, humor, and patience shared drafts of papers, participated in conference panels in Washington, D.C., Amsterdam, and San Francisco, and with whom we had the privilege of sharing the rewards of academic exchange.
